Interior Stains and Dyes

A selection of water and solvent based wood stains and dyes are available to bring definition to the wood grain, to enhance the appearance of the surface, to match existing or different species of wood or to compliment architectural features.

The type of stain used will also determine the type of top coat you can use as a finish, not all stains and dyes are compatible with the final top coat finish.

Wax Polishes

Wax polishes are available in a range of natural wood shades as well as colourless. A G Woodcare only supply high quality waxes supplied by Briwax International, Fiddes, Liberon and Jenkins. Some consumer grade waxes contain silicone's and we would advise you to avoid the use of such products.

There are many different type of waxes containing bees wax, carnauba wax, paraffin wax as well as different types of solvents within the mix such as naptha and turpentine. So every manufacturer has their own special blend, which makes no two waxes the same. Some waxes are suitable for chairs some are not, other waxes will produce a hard wearing surface while others are too soft so we have listed within each product description the most suitable use for the wax.

Oil Finishes

This is one area of wood finishing which if not understood and used properly can be a nightmare, yet they are simple to use and produce fantastic results. Oil finishes have been around since the Romans, but it has only grown in popularity with in the last 40 years or so, and massively so within the last 15 years and is still growing. A G Woodcare only stock the very best available, manufacturers such as Rustins, Liberon, Osmo, Blanchon, Fiddes, Rystix, companies that have been around as long as the Romans, (well a long time anyway).

We have in excess of 200 oiled finishes on the shelf. Products suitable for all types of interior or exterior woodwork, for floors, doors, windows, furniture, staircases, panelling, toys, listed within each product description is the use for the product.

Glazes and Varnishes

Varnishes provide a hard wearing barrier of protection, protecting the timber from staining, scratching, heat and impact while enhancing the colour. Used mainly for interior use but with limited exterior use and available in spirit based and water based (with European Eco-Label requirements) for a natural finish.

French Polishes

French polishes are made up from flaked shellac dissolved in methylated spirit, designed to give a good finish on furniture. The types of shellac used can vary in colour from light clear colour to a dark brown colour. The type of colour to use will mainly depend on the type of timber and furniture.

Said to originate from France in the 15/16 hundreds, french polishing is not something that can be achieved by anybody. To french polish the correct way requires practice and lots of patience.

Lacquers

Lacquers are highly resistant wood finishes available in clear, but can also be tinted and coloured. Supplied in various sheen levels from ultra matt to high gloss as well as water based or cellulose based. Single part lacquers are known a pre-cat and two part known as acid-cat. Lacquers are generally supplied to the wood finishing industries in 5litre and 25litre drums for spray application. We also stock a range in 400ml aerosol tins for the trade & DIY.

Wood wax creative from Osmo is ideal for all interior woodwork. Osmo produce some of the best interior finishes available today, and the wood wax finish creative is one of them, available in 6 modern pastel shades to produce a transparent or opaque finish.
