Overview

Osmo Polyx Oil is a versatile, high-quality wooden floor and interior joinery solution. It enhances the natural beauty and character of wood while providing robust protection. Osmo Polyx Oil caters to a range of aesthetic preferences. Its resistance to everyday household substances like wine, cola, and coffee makes it ideal for kitchens and high-traffic areas.

The Osmo Polyx Oil range includes options like Osmo Polyx Oil 3032 Clear Satin and Osmo Polyx Oil 3062 Clear Matt, ensuring a finish that suits every style. Rapid drying formulas are available in both Osmo Polyx Oil 3232 and Osmo Polyx Oil 3262 variants, offering efficiency and convenience. These products are available in various sizes, including 750ml, 2.5L, and 10L, catering to different project sizes.

Preparation

Proper preparation of the wood surface is crucial for optimal application of Osmo Polyx Oil:

  • Surface Condition: Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and frost-free.
  • Ready to Use: Osmo Polyx Oil is ready to use, so all you need to do is stir well before use.
  • Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the wood before application. You should remove old paints and lacquers to ensure optimal application and durability.
  • Sanding: Sand carefully, starting with coarse sandpaper with the final grade being 120-150 grit for flooring, or 180-240 grit for furniture. Remove dust with a broom or vacuum after sanding.
  • Patch Test: It’s always best to do a patch test application before starting the job. You want to ensure that the oil will have the desired effect.

Application

Osmo Polyx Oil can be used on various surfaces, including all wooden, cork, and certain stone surfaces like terracotta and unglazed tiles. For optimal results, follow these application tips:

  • Tool Selection: Apply the oil using a high-quality brush or a lint-free cloth. We recommend using the Osmo Floor Brush, a Synthetic Paint Brush, or a Microfibre Roller.
  • Even Application: Ensure the oil is applied evenly and any excess is removed with a cloth.
  • Primer for Specific Woods: For tropical, oily, or dense woods, use Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin as a primer.
  • Primer for areas prone to moisture: Osmo Wood Protector 4006 can be used as a preservative primer underneath the Polyx Oil where moisture may pose an issue.
  • Apply Thinly: Apply the oil thinly along the wood grain and spread well.
  • Drying Time: Allow to dry for approximately 8-10 hours in a well-ventilated area.
  • Second Coat: After the initial drying, apply a second thin coat. The surface will be usable after approx. 8-10 hours, and fully cured after 2-3 weeks.
  • Recoating: One coat on the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient when renovating or recoating an already oiled surface.

After Care

Maintaining floors treated with Osmo Polyx Oil, such as Osmo Polyx Oil 2.5L or Omso Polyx OIl 3062 Clear Matt 750ml, is straightforward. For daily cleaning, use Osmo Wash & Care. Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner is ideal for more intensive cleaning and for adding an extra layer of protection. For high-traffic areas or areas where the finish is showing dullness, Osmo Maintenance Oil will revitalise the finish.

I have used this polyx oil before and it did a great job in sealing the stained floor, however with wear you will have to top up and reapply over time especially if it's in an area with lots of traffic. I would like to mention that it does take some time to dry properly so if your wanting a quick job then I suggest you buy the rapid dry one. It goes on easily enough but it does have quite a strong aroma with it so just beware of that. It does give a fabulous finish though and that's what is important.

Absolutely brilliant has really enriched the wood very easy to apply.

Brilliant product worth every penny and service from A G Woodcare was excellent in every way.
