For that dark rich colour, darker in appearance than both Button, and Heavy French Polish, Fiddes Garnet Polish affords a distinctive depth of colour, provides an ideal base colour from which to build an authentic Jacobean finish, particularly on oak wood.
Manufactured from best quality shellac flakes rich warm and dark in appearance, garnet polish is traditional french polish and is a firm favourite with antique restorers.
Preparation is as always extremely important and special attention is recommended to achieve the desired finish. (See our guide on preparation tab below)
Ensure all areas to be coated are free from grease and blemishes prior to application. Fiddes range of Shellac Polishes are ideally suited for application on top of N.G.R stain, Vandyke and Naptha Wood Stains.
Application: by Polishers Mop or rubber,.
Drying time: approx 20-30 minutes.
Coverage: approx 8 sq meters per litre, the number of coats required will depend on the type of timber and finish required, minimum 3 coats but can be as high as 6 coats.
Thinners: Finishing Spirit / Methylated Spirit.
NB. Always finish with a coat of Fiddes Supreme Wax Polish or Mellow Wax Polish to further protect and enhance the natural beauty of your wood.
