Button Cake Shellac produce a golden brown coloured French Polish which is often used in antique restoration or bespoke production of darker furniture.

A typical recipe for french polish is a mix of 250g of shellac with 1L of methylated spirits, add more shellac cakes for a thicker polish. Mix in a jar with a lid and allow to dissolve for 24 hours.
