Goldsize is a modified spirit based varnish, it can be used for various applications, the main use being an adhesive to bond gold leaf. It is also used extensively by french polishers to make up a "stipple" Stipple is used for creating shading effects in Antique Restoration, Antique Reproduction or for blending in a new piece on to existing antique furniture.

Handover’s oil based gold size is available in a range of open times from 1-2 hours to 3 hours. These are the approximate times you should expect to have to work on the size before it dries completely. Within that time you will have to wait before the size is ready to receive leaf – this will vary with temperature, climate, substrate, application, etc.
