Junckers Kitchen Worktop Oil
Overview
Junckers Kitchen Worktop Oil is an interior oil product, designed for the priming and oiling of untreated or sanded wooden kitchen worktops and table tops.
It adds a water and dirt repellent surface to the wood and complies with EU framework regulation 1935/2004 for food contact. The oil has received the Danish Indoor Climate Labelling and undergone emission and odor tests to ensure it does not adversely affect air quality in the room. It can be used for kitchen worktops, chopping boards, and other wooden tools that come into contact with food.
Preparation
Before applying any new oil finish, it's important to ensure that the surface is clean, dry and free from any previous coatings and contaminants.
Sand the timber to remove any rough spots, using 100 - 120 grit sandpaper. Wipe over with a damp cloth to remove of any sanding dust. Junckers Kitchen Worktop Oil works best when the surface has been wet slightly before applying oil. This improves the oil saturation, achieving a uniform finish. A damp cloth can be used to give the surface an evenly wetted finish. Let the surface dry completely before moving on so that it no longer feels damp.
Application
- Apply two coats of oil, wet-in-wet, at 30 minutes intervals.
- Use a lint-free cloth to distribute and buff up the oil.
- Ensure that the entire surface is kept moist and distribute the oil from wet to dry areas where the oil has been absorbed.
- After 20-30 minutes of applying the second coat, remove any excess oil with a clean lint-free cloth.
- Be sure to wipe off any excess oil to obtain a uniform finish.
- Areas where the oil hasn't been absorbed into the wood, and is left to dry, will discolour the surface.
- Leave to dry for 16-24 hours, before applying the fnishing coats.
Finishing
- Once fully dry, carefully sand the surface using fins sandpaper 180 - 220 grit.
- After removing the sanding dust, apply 2 more thin coats of Junckers Kitchen Worktop Oil until the surface is saturated.
- Buff again with a clean lint-free cloth until the surface feels dry.
- Any oil that has not been absorbed must be removed within 30 minutes of application.
- Please note that the natural content of resin in wood can affect the colour expression in the oiling process.
Aftercare
For everyday cleaning of your foodsafe oiled worktop, we recommend Osmo Spray Cleaner.
Osmo Spray Cleaner is an excellent every day cleaning spray which has food safety in mind. Not only does it moisturize the wood, but it's also free of any dyes, aromas and solvents, helping you to keep your kitchen work top in lovely condition.
If you feel the surface requires some additional TLC, a quick sand with 180-220 grit sandpaper and another application of the Worktop Oil will be sufficient to bring it back to full lustre.
